In 2016, my life took a sharp turn when I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 21. Over the years, I faced relentless flare-ups, countless hospital visits, and a growing list of medications. By 2022, after yet another severe flare-up landed me in the hospital, I found myself feeling defeated, wondering if I would ever regain control of my life.
One night, while I was in the hospital, my partner Joe stumbled upon Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and told me all about it. Desperate for relief, we decided to try it after I was discharged. We travelled to Liverpool to try out a chamber, and to my surprise, I felt a slight improvement almost immediately. It was a glimmer of hope in a very dark time.
Encouraged by this, we boldly decided to buy a chamber to have at home. I used it religiously over the next few months. Slowly but surely, I started noticing significant changes. The side effects from years of medication—warts on my hands, constant skin allergies, intense itching, and debilitating brain fog—began to fade away.
One day, I looked down and realised that my warts were gone, my skin had cleared up, and the itching and rashes were a thing of the past. For the first time in years, I started to feel normal again.
Within six months, something remarkable happened—I was completely medication-free. The symptoms of Crohn’s that had dictated every aspect of my life began to vanish. I could eat foods that had once been off-limits, and I started to enjoy life in a way I hadn't for years. This transformation was nothing short of miraculous, and it opened my eyes to the potential of HBOT.
Seeing these incredible results in myself, I felt a growing responsibility to share this therapy with others, especially since so little awareness exists and the research is still emerging. I began inviting people who were also struggling with their health to try out the chamber. The results were astounding. People started seeing improvements in various conditions, and it became clear that this therapy needed to be accessible to more people.
That’s when the idea for Breathe was born. I wanted to create a clinic with a simple yet powerful goal: to make HBOT affordable and accessible to everyone. I realised that the few clinics offering this treatment in the UK were charging exorbitant prices per session, making it out of reach for many. But because HBOT’s benefits are cumulative, I knew I needed to offer a membership model—one that would allow people to use the therapy frequently without breaking the bank.
Now, as I write this, it’s been well over a year since I’ve taken any medication or experienced symptoms of Crohn’s. My life is no longer dominated by blood tests, prescriptions, doctor’s appointments, or hospital visits. Instead, I’m living a life full of joy, freedom, and health. I recently started attending the gym, where I’ve gained almost 20kg, and I’m currently the heaviest I’ve been since 2016. If I can help even one person feel how I feel now, I’ll consider it a success.
